I am Dr Michael Hennessy (MBBS, BMedSc, MBiomedE, FRANZCO) and I run IOL Power. I am an Ophthalmologist in clinical practice in Sydney, Australia. I work part time at the Department of Ophthalmology at the Prince of Wales Hospital (POWH) and part time in Private Practice in Bondi Junction.
My undergraduate medical degree (MBBS) was completed at the University of Queensland with honours (1986), including a Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSc) Degree in the department of anatomy during 1983. After three years working as a resident medical officer at the Royal Brisbane Hospital between 1987-89, I moved to Sydney and started my Masters in Biomedical Engineering (MBiomedE) at the University of NSW. I entered vocational training in Ophthalmology at the Prince of Wales Hospital in 1991, completed the MBiomedE in 1992, and completed my Ophthalmology training at the end of 1994, gaining my fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. I then joined the clinical staff at the Eye Clinic at POWH and commenced private practice outside the hospital.
At the Eye Clinic at the POWH my duties include: supervising general ophthalmology clinics and a weekly operating session, I supervise Ophthalmology trainees, and I am the director of the clinical audit program for the department.
IOL Power is a business I have established (registered in NSW) to develop and market computer software for the analysis of refractive results from the implantation of intraocular lenses used after the removal of cataracts in humans.
The IOLeDa method of analysis is the heart of the computer software systems.
